The Rangers Program is a nationwide group of young people between the ages of 4-16. Boys and girls that assist American River Restoration in specific project missions to recover, prevent and educate about microplastic and plastic pollution.

A RIVER RANGER’S MISSION

Most people don’t realize that plastic is the only manmade product that lasts for an eternity. Plastic never goes away. Over many years it maintains its presence by breaking down into microplastic, where it will haunt this world forever.

One of the specific missions the Rangers will be involved in is an urgent one. An urgent mission, with no solution, having major impacts on our environment.

Since 1831 the Audubon society has been tracking and counting our seabird population. In the last 20 years our native seabirds in North America have been decimated, and several species are endangered and on the way to extinction because of one thing…bottle tops, and plastic.

The birds think it’s food and have an inability to digest it. The saddest part is the bottle tops last for hundreds of years, with one top harming many, many birds. These tops are everywhere on this planet, and especially in parks and playgrounds.

Becoming an American River Ranger means that you will be aware and seek to recover these tops in your daily activities. Unfortunately, these tops are not recyclable, so we will have a monthly prize for the best bottle top sculpture, or artwork.
